How to solve for a variable when it appears more than once

Multiply through by a. Gather all a-containing terms on one side of the equation, with all other terms on the other side. Factor out the a, and divide off whatever's left.

ok i got this far...x+ay/b+az/c=a am I on the right track?

That's the first step. Now do the next step: Gather all the a-terms on one side of the "equals", with everything else on the other side. Then factor out the "a", and divide off everything that isn't the "a".
