I need to mix something up for my chicks. The mixture requires 4oz for every 100gallons. If it’s 4oz to every 100gallons. How many ounces would I need for 5gallons?

I’m not the best with math, I struggle very hard with numbers. I’m not sure at all how to convert that or even where to begin

Hi @Nikminx,
You're looking to solve X the following equation:
[math]\dfrac{4\medspace oz}{100\medspace gallons}=\dfrac{X\medspace oz}{5\medspace gallons}[/math]:)

4oz for every 100gallons

Since 100/20 = 5, you should divide both numbers in 4oz for every 100gallons by 20

An easy way to think about this is to first find a unit rate: how many ounces do you need per gallon?

Since you need 4 oz for 100 gallons, you need 1/100 as much for 1 gallon, and 1/100 of 4 is 0.04. (Divide by 100.)

So you need 0.04 oz per gallon.

Now, how much do you need for 5 gallons? It will be 5 times as much as for 1 gallon. That is, you need 5 gallons times 0.04 oz per gallon, and 5 times 0.04 is 0.2 oz.
