Say the 6 or each of the 20 items were numbered 1-20. (1) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 (2) 1,2,9,10,11,12,13,14 (3) 1,2, 15, 16,17,18,19,20 (4) 1,3,4,9,10,16,17,18 .......?
Why not just give the first person one each of items 1 to 8, the second person one each of items 9 to 16, the third person one each of items 17 to 20 and items 1 to 4, and so on?
In any case, I'd imagine laying them out in 6 rows of 20, and just splitting that rectangle into 8 equal parts in whatever way seems right.
