find the value of k for which the slope of the line though (-2, k) and (5, 3k-4) is 8.

i've been stuck on it for over a half hour and have no idea what to do. i'd love if someone could help!

For the line going through (a,b) & (c,d):

Slope = ?

Write an expression for the slope of the line though (-2, k) and (5, 3k-4), and set that equal to 8 to make an equation. Then solve it.

We need to see where you need help, so if you can attempt any part of that, please show us. If you don't know how to write that expression, then just answer SK's more general question.
