In a given set of numbers identify which are the integers, rational, irrational and imaginary:

-5 1/2, the square root of 2, 6 2/3,xt, the square root of 8, 1.63,0,the square root of -4,-5, -15/7,3+5i,3 square root of -8

Thanks Mary b

Please tell us the definitions of integers, rational, irrational and imaginary numbers.

If you don't have a text book - please use google and look it up.

After you know that - then it is a simple matter of applying those definitions.

Tell us your ideas - and why do you think so.

Thanks I will look it up in the book and apply it as you directed.

One student put

Intergers 5,0, 6
Irrational sqrt 2 = 1.414214,sqrt 8= 2.828427 pie 3.142
Rationals -5 1/2, -15/7, = -2.142857, 2/3 = 0.6 repeating,1.63 repeating, -5=-51/1,6,0.
Imaginary 3+5i,sqrt -4,3 6 ^ SQRT -8

Does that sound about right???

Irrational sqrt 2 = 1.414214,sqrt 8= 2.828427 pie 3.142

.......................................................\(\displaystyle \uparrow{\text{Please stop that, it looks ridiculous}}\)

The Greek letter, used to indicate the geometrical constant approximately equal to 3.14159, is spelled "pi"!

Your answers are correct - but why are you adding the approximate decimal expressions?

The answers should be:

Intergers 5,0, 6
Irrational sqrt 2 ,sqrt 8 pi
Rationals -5 1/2, -15/7, 2/3 ,1.63 , -5,6,0.
Imaginary 3+5i,sqrt (-4),3 6 ^ SQRT (-8)
