If the coordinates of the vertices of ?ABC are A(-5,0), B(5,0) and C(0,8),
What is the area of the triangle?
I am struggling in math and just found this site. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Start by drawing the three dots which are the vertices of the triangle. Then draw the line segments which are the sides of the triangle.

Clearly, the triangle is isosceles. From the picture, what is the height? From the picture, what is the length of the base?

What is the formula for the area A of a triangle with height h and base length b? Plug your values into the formula, and simplify to find the area.

If you get stuck, please reply showing your work and results for the above step-by-step instructions. Thank you! ;)

Plot the vertices on the coordinate plane. Then look at the triangle. It's isosceles. and since it's on the xy plane, you remember the formula we use when we wanna solve for the length of a segment given the coordinates of its endpoints? Use that and tip! since it's isosceles triangle and the base lies on the x-axis, you can use that formula for just one leg! then just count the distance between A and B :) looking forward to see your work .

To: YAMAHAKITTY, Just stop a minute. Think! Do you not see the the base is 10\displaystyle 10 & the height is 8 ?\displaystyle 8~?
