Gather like terms.
Solve for x as if it were an equality rather than an inequality with one exception. That exception is...if you multiply or divide both sides of the inequality by a negative number, you must change the sense of the inequality.

In other words, the first step in solving this linear inequality is to simplify the parentheses:
. . . . .5 - 2(x) - 2(-3) < 4(x) + 4(-4)
. . . . .5 - 2x + 6 < 4x - 16
. . . . .11 - 2x < 4x - 16
Then add 2x to either side, add 16 to either side, and divide through by 6 to complete your solution. :wink:
