$\displaystyle x \ = \ \cos(2*\theta)$

This substitution will remove $\displaystyle \sqrt \ \$ from both the numerator and the denominator.

Another approach you might take is to multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction by 1-x. This will change it to a form where a more obvious substitution is applicable (actually, two different substitutions).
