Intermediate Value Theorem

This is a Calc I concept. I am now in an advanced math class and can not recall how to apply this theorem. (I understand the theorem)

Using the IVT, find an interval of length one that contains a room for the equation.

x^3=9

I have several of these I need to do, but if I can see how one is done, I'm sure I'll be able to do the others.

What is the meaning of "a room" for a function?
