I'm currently stuck at this question:
"For every one of the groups U determine whether it a sub space of V." Explain fully.

Explain fully? Are you serious? This is your problem which you have to do. So show us your work, tell us where you are stuck and some of the volunteers here will help you.

I suggest that you start by telling what you think is required to show that something is a sub space
