This can be derived directly from the definition of the logarithm of x to the base a. Remember, logax = y, iff x=a^y.

So let's start with something we can both agree with:

logx5=logx5

Applying the definition to this we get that "x is the base, which when raised to the logx5 power gives us 5 as the result," or 5 = x^logx5.

Clear as mud, now, right? :)
