I hope you aren't waiting for some magic formula.
\(\displaystyle \;\;\)"Brute force" listing is only practical way.

List the different ways you can give change from $100 dollar bill for a $78 dollar purchase
w/o using coins and w/o giving a customer more than 7 singles.

math-tutur did a fine job, but didn't include the two-dollar bill . . . I found 28 ways.

I won't list them here ... unless you say "Please".
