A rectangular school playground measures 100 metres by 75 metres. There is a square blacktop area in the centre of the playground with sides that measure 40 metres. The rest of the playground is seeded with grass. What is the area in square metres of the grassy portion of the playground.

100x75= 7500 m^2
black top area==40x40= 1600m^2

7500-1600= 5900 m^2

Thank you

It makes sense when someone else does it. I'm helping my nephew study for a heavy equipment operator test this coming Wednesday. We started from basic math operations and as we get into the harder stuff this was the first question we came across without any explanation of Volume. Thank you so much especially for the "explanation" and not just the answer.
