math: 1291 - 0.056% =

1291-0.056% = what was the number before they x it by 0.056% to it. so how do i find out the starting number
 
As written, there is no way to answer this, since you are not given the value of which you are needing 0.056%.

Please consult with your instructor regarding a corrected statement of the exercise, and also for the instructions.

Assuming that you need 0.056% of 1291, you can solve this in the following way.

A simplified version of the equation would be 1291-(1291*0.00056).

1 = 100% in decimal form. In the same way, 0.5 = 50%. Using that, you should be able to solve the problem if it is, infact, what the question was asking. More clarification would be preferable, however.
 
1223 * .056 is 68.488

And 1223 + 68 is 1291, so maybe 1223 is your answer.

You should check with your teacher though. I'm not really sure what the exercise is asking and I doubt 1223 is the answer.
