Quite a list. These questions can solve using the same underlying concepts. What has been shown to you to solve such problems, or how would you approach them?

How many milliliters of pure acid should be added to 20 mL of 15% acid to make a 40% acid solution?

Let equal the number of mL of pure acid we are going to add.

Convert the percentages into decimals

Set up an equation with the concentrations multiplied by the volume of solution. Simplify.

Simplify the equation by subtracting 3 and from both sides.

Divide both sides by 0.6.


The answer is 8 1/3 mL

What concepts?
Imagine that you have one bucket with 105 ml of 50% acid solution and you want to mix it with with a 2nd bucket with x ml of 0% acid solution (bucket only contains water) to get a 30% acid solution.

What concepts? The amount of pure acid solution in the 1st bucket plus the amount of pure acid solution in the 2nd bucked equals the amount of pure solution in the mixture!
