I need some help. :( I haven't figured out how they got sqr 2 for R. I thought it would be sqr 168 or something.

Assume that alpha is an angle in standard position whose terminal side contains the point (8,-8). Find the exact values of the following functions.

Thanks in advance...

Your problem statement is incomplete.

Which functions?

R^2 = (-8)^2 + 8^2 = 128
....R = sqrt(128) = 8 * sqrt(2)

If they renormalized everything by dividing by 8, then R = sqrt(2) and the two legs of the triangle are -1 in the x-direction and +1 in the y-direction.
