Nautical miles are used by ships and airplanes. They are different from statute miles, which equal 5280 feet. A nautical miles is defined to be the arc length along the equtor intercepted by a central angle AOB of 1 minute. If the equatorial radius of Earth is 3863 miles, use the arc length formula to approximate the number of statute miles in 1 nautical mile.

I have no clue on how to work this trig problem. Will someone please help?

Earth's radius is 3963 miles.

Therefore, 3963(2)3.14/360(60) = 1.152 statute miles to the nautical mile.
