The scientists discovered 21 tyrannosaurus eggs. Some eggs are broken. There were 6 times as many unbroken eggs as broken eggs. How many eggs were not broken?

You have 2 unknown quantities here...the number of unbroken eggs and the number of broken eggs. So, I would choose to let U be the number of unbroken eggs, and B be the number of broken eggs. We know there is a total of 21 eggs, i.e., the number of unbroken eggs plus the number of broken eggs equals 21. How can we state this mathematically?

We are also told that there are 6 times as many unbroken eggs as broken eggs. How can we state this mathematically?

Once you have made these two statements, you will have two equations in two unknowns.
