Need help with Algebra: In "( 4X - 6 ) / 7 = 2", what does "/" mean?

So basically ive been revising for a test i have coming up and i've noticed that questions/symbols within the questions have changed are and more common now since i did gcse maths a while ago.

Basically i'm getting stuck on revising questions that are 'find the value of x'

For Example: ( 4X - 6 ) / 7 = 2
WHAT IS THE VALUE OF Xi

i've never seen the '/' before but i used to complete these questions all the time back in high school...

can somebody show me a nice easy method of understanding and completing these EQUATIONS and explain the meaning of the '/'

thanks

The sign \ means divided by. For your problem, that should read:

(4x-6) "divided by" 7 "equals to" 2

If you multiply both sides of the equation by 7 - you would get:

4x - 6 = 14

continue....
