Need help with identities

What work have you shown? Did I miss it?

Have you considered factoring? What can you do with [math]2x^{2} - 3xy + y^{2} = 0[/math]

Do you understand what they did in part (a)? Are there any values of x for which the two equations would not be equivalent?

Then you can either directly factor the tangent form of the equation, or make a substitution, [MATH]u = \tan(x)[/MATH], and solve.
