Your teacher that you are referring to is your calculus teacher, not your algebra or trigonometry teacher. The perquisite for calculus is algebra and trigonometry.

You need to factor and/or use a popular trig identity. Give it a try.

I would express what you need to do a little differently; maybe I'm just seeing a different way to solve it.

Please show us what limits you have learned; you will need to know, probably, two basic trigonometric limits. If you haven't been taught anything at all about limits, then there is a problem. If you have learned the limits I have in mind, then you need to do a little algebra.

The more you show us of what you know, and what you have tried, the better we can help.
 
Almost every time you have a trig limit and direct substitution gives an indetermined form you need to get sinx/x or x/sinx (possible the angle may not be x, but in this example it is)
