It almost sounds like you're referring to nothing more than a number-line, with a certain interval marked off, which would have been covered back in pre-algebra...? :shock:
But you specify that this is an intermediate-algebra question, so you must mean more than that. I'm sorry, but I can't guess what it might be, either.
