On the future of this Forum

Folks,

I launched this forum somewhere around 2002. At the time I was a high school student with plenty of time for hobbies, and this was one of them. Over the (literal) decades since, FreeMathHelp was anywhere from a hobby, to a business, to a distraction, to something I've essentially abandoned in place as my life has evolved. I am truly grateful for the thousands and thousands of hours you have all contributed to this community, but I recognize that this forum no longer has effective moderation and is falling into disrepair. While it costs money to operate, that alone isn't an issue. I'm more concerned that without any additional effort on my part to ensure a basic level of effective moderation the site is more of a hazard than a benefit to students.

As such, I am inclined to shut down the forum at some point in the relatively near future.

Most likely I will leave the historical content in place as a reference but no longer accept new users or posts. I am open to forwarding users to a new location if there is a clear successor that anyone can recommend, but I can see clearly that most students nowadays have other (perhaps better) resources than online forums.

I know it will be disappointing to many of you, but the familiar names I knew well from the 2000s and 2010s have passed along to new activities (or, sadly, are no longer with us at all). For those remaining, thank you all for your time over the years, and take good care of yourselves.

Ted

Ted, please shut down the forum as soon as possible. It already has pornographic
sites being advertised that cannot be moderated away. The surviving people can
concentrate their time in other math forums with moderation or whatever they want
to do. Thank you.

All - I am discussing the possibility of migrating the full forum to a new domain hosted by a third-party to continue operations. That would be preferable to simply closing the doors, I believe.
