Hello! Thank you for reading this.
I am attempting to build a board game, I just started this week and I am trying to work out dice balance. I am however running into an issue! I'm OKAY at math but this is beyond me.
Aiming for a 50/50 win/loss ratio for attacking and defending player.
defending player has 5 life points total, and all life points must be 'taken' in order for the attacking player to win the fight.
The attacking player has 5 rolls to take 5 life points (I can add 1 more roll if needed)
both dice are 6 sided.
Defenders dice has -2, -2, -1, 0, 0, 0. - the negative 2 and 1 removes that much damage from the attacking players roll
The attacking dice has 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1. - value of damage.
so far I have figured out that...
a) the average attacking roll is 1.5 points of damage.
b) the attacker will do 7.5 total points of damage on average over 5 rolls (so either 7 or 8 damage) with a 50% chance of doing 8 or 7.
c) The defender blocks .6667 points of damage per roll on average. blocking a total of 3.33 points of damage, either a 3 or a 4 with a 33% chance of blocking 4 and 66% chance of blocking 3.
So currently, if I am correct, this means that the defender with these dice has 16% chance additional chance to win each fight?
meaning, the attacking player will win 42% of the fights, and the defender will win 58% ?
the other option I have for balancing the dice, if 5 rolls has no way of working out to 50,50.. is making 6 rolls.
defenders dice would be 2, 2, 2, 0, 0, 0
attackers dice would be 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1
which means in 6 rolls the attacker on avg will do 6 points of damage. I am confused with this however, because I need a 50% win/loss ratio, and if the attacker takes 6 lives, the defender loses.
I realize this is complicated. I'm hoping I found the right forum with the right geniuses! LOL.
thank you in advanced....
