Is it proper form to write [MATH]5x+0[/MATH] for example as my polynomial quotient when I already have found the remainder after finding the [MATH]5x[/MATH] term? Or should I just leave it as [MATH]5x[/MATH] and leave a space after? Thanks!

The final answer should most naturally be written as [MATH]5x[/MATH]. If you are asking about how to write the quotient within your work, that's entirely up to you. Some people find that writing place-holding zeros helps to prevent mistakes.

Possibly if I saw your actual work in context, I might have a slightly different opinion.
