So I have a pyramid that gives base area 12.7 ft^2 and height is 17.8 ft. I'm not sure how to work backwards from this.

Well, have you found the formula for volume of a pyramid? The most general formula is [MATH]V=\frac{1}{3}Bh[/MATH], where [MATH]B[/MATH] is the area of the base (regardless of its shape), and [MATH]h[/MATH] is the height from the base to the apex.

You know [MATH]B[/MATH] and [MATH]h[/MATH], so just put them into the formula. I'm not sure why you think you need to work backwards; I'd think of doing that if you knew, say, the volume and the base area and wanted to find the height.
