A popular restaurant has places for 50 customers. For Sunday lunches there is great demand so it is necessary to book. The restaurant manager knows that 10% of customers who book do not arrive at the restaurant. He takes bookings for Sunday lunch for 55 customers. What is the probability that he will have more customers than places?

What is the MEAN expectation?
What is the Standard Deviation?

This is most likely a problem regarding approximation of the binomial distribution by the normal distribution.

You should have formulas for the mean and standard deviation of the normal approximation given N and p of the binomial distribution.

Apply them and then evaluate the simple requested probability using a lookup table or software.
