Range of Equation Problem

I tried to solve this questions without hit and trail method, I am not able to any solution.



Please help, I don't know from which way to start?

Hello Varun:

Please explain what you thought about or tried, on the first exercise.

Things to consider: what if a and b are on opposite sides of zero? What if they're both on the same side of zero?

If ONE of the two numbers (a or b) is zero, how big (or small, if negative) can the OTHER be?
