Reading Comprehension - Charts' Tips

What is unlabeled division?

It would be nice if the authors had included examples, wouldn't it? They need to be given some teaching tips of their own!

But when I Google "unlabeled divisions", I find images like these:

Can you guess from these examples, even though they are not graphs? Can you explain to a child what those little markings mean?
 
What is the meaning of the underline text in the paragraph:
* Ensure children experience a range of graphs, including those with unlabeled divisions, line graphs where intermediate points do and do not have meaning, and different presentations of the same data.
