Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are traveling across a desert by hot-air balloon. There are not many landmarks; so, eventually, they become lost.

After quite some time, while drifting not far above the dunes, they fortunately spot a man riding a camel.

Holmes shouts, "Sir, could you please tell me where I am?"

The man looks up, stops his camel, ponders for a moment, and then shouts back, "Sir, you are up in the sky in a hot-air balloon!"

At this moment, a burst of wind picks up the balloon and carries it away.

Holmes turns to Watson and asks: "My friend, do you know who that man is?"

"No, Holmes, of course not!", replies the doctor.

"He's a mathematician!"

"Holmes, that's incredible! How on earth did you possibly deduce it?"

"It's elementary, Watson. Firstly, the man thinks before giving me his answer. Secondly, his answer is absolutely correct. And, thirdly, the answer he gave me is of no practical use whatsoever!"
