8 8
___+____
s s2

I would start doing

8(s2) 8(s)
_____+______
s s2

8s2 8s
_____+_______
s s2

I know I have to add the top

so I think it would be 16s3
______
s+s2

but that doesn't look right

to add two fractions, you need a common denominator ...

8/s + 8/s2 =

the common denominator of these two fractions is s2 ...

8s/s2 + 8/s2 =

... finish up.

At the top of this webpage is pull-down tab ‘Forum Help’.
On that tab is a list of resources about writing mathematics on the web.
You really should take the time to at least read Karl’s Notes.
As is you postings are almost impossible to read.
Properly posted problems are more likely to be answered.

I can't add them together because there not the same, so I would just bring them over.

8s+8/s2

8s + 8 is NOT 16s

Pleaase back up. Reread the last section or two and give it all another go.

8s+8/s2

put a set of parenthesis around the terms in the numerator, and indicate that the 2 after the s is an exponent, and you're all done.

(8s+8)/s^2
