My question is written in the image.

***UPDATE:
Oh I get it, they're subtracting both 7/2 together that's why they were able to use the logarithmic rule. I still don't know where they got the extra x though.

Simple algebra:

7/2 * [1/(x-1) + 1/(x+)]

= 7/2 * [{(x+1) + (x-1)}/{(x-1)(x+1)}]

and continue.....
