Good evening,

I have a math question I am stuck on.

y = 2 sin 4 (x+ pi/8) - 2

The equation comes up on my calculators as a straight line, even when I am on RAD mode. Why is this?

This does not sound like a math question, but rather a question about calculator usage. Show this to someone who is familiar with the type of calculator you are using.

I'm noticing your lack of parenthesis around the 4.
You might have input this [imath]y = 2\sin(4) \left(x+ \dfrac{\pi}{8}\right) - 2[/imath], which is in fact a straight line.

nope, i did not use parentheses in the calculator
 
Thank you! But being that there were no parentheses in the original problem, shouldn't there have been?
