6m - 24 = (4)(6m + 6) - 3m

6m - 24 = 21m + 24
15m = -48
m = -48/15

If you want to multiply [equ 1] by 6, term by term from left to right:

... you got (6/1)(1/6)(6m -24) = 6m - 24

2/3(m + 1) * 6 = 4(m+1)
... you got (6/1)(2/3)(6m + 6) = 4(6m+6)

- 1/2m * 6 = -6((1/2)m)
... you got this fine!

for your 3rd line it should be like this...
m-4 = (4)(m + 1) - 3m

the 6/1 . 1/6 cancels out to be 1 which has not impact.

and the (6/1)(2/3)(6m + 6) should be (6/1)(2/3) (m+1)
which gives 4(m+1)

Your equation:
1/6(m - 4) = 2/3(m + 1) - 1/2m

Step1: REWRITE!
(m - 4) / 6 = 2(m + 1) / 3 - m / 2

Step2: now it's quite clear LCD=6; so multiply by 6:
m - 4 = 4(m + 1) - 3m

Step3: finish off:
m - 4 = 4m + 4 - 3m
m - 4 = m + 4
....hmmm: what ya gonna do with that :evil:
