E elchichita Guest May 27, 2005 #2 x(x-2)=3 is equivalent to x(x-2)-3=0, or x^2-2x-3=0, which means (simply by inspection) that x=-1 or x=3

Think about the Domain: x != 1 and x!= -1 Find a common denominator: (x+1)*(x-1) Add the fractions and see what pops up. 3x^2 + 2x +2 = 0 Click to expand... Do we get to use Imaginary numbers? The Quadratic Formula will ALLWAYS tell you both solutions. b2 - 4*a*c = 22 - 4*3*2 = 4 - 24 = -20 If we're stuck with Real numbers, we're done. Why?
