I tried solving this system, and got x=x^3, which is a false statement. So I thought there's no solution, but this is not correct. -- What did I do wrong?

Why do you think [MATH]x = x^3[/MATH] is a false statement? There are several solutions!

I see them immediately, but you can find them by moving both terms to the same side and factoring.

Thank you, Dr. Peterson! I got it finally.

0=0^3
1=1^3
-1 = (-1)^3

You can a cubic equation which will ALWAYS have 1 or 3 real solutions. So saying that it had no solution is a problem. Then again you will learn about that for sure in pre-calculus if not in algebra.
