Solving rational functions

In my attachment, I have placed the problem I am having some trouble with.
I feel like I got myself lost, and that I am probably not solving this question correctly in the first place ^^;

I feel like I got myself lost, and that I am probably not solving this question correctly in the first place ^^;

\(\displaystyle \dfrac{y+7}{y+2} + 1 = \dfrac{y+4}{y+1}\)... multiply everything by LCM of denominators = (y+2)(y+1)

\(\displaystyle (y+7)(y+1) + (y+2)(y+1) = (y+4)(y+2)\)

y² + 8y + 7 + y² + 3y + 2 = y² + 6y + 8

y² + 5y + 1 = 0..... continue....

Should be y^2 + 7x + 12 = 0 .... wait! wait! ... where did x come from?!!
