Solve each system using any method (substitution, elimination, addition etc.)

How do I do this:

1) x+3y=3
-x+3y=9

2) -3x=4y= -12
-4x=5y= -15

3) 4x+y=20
3x+5y= 15

Can someoone please help me out?

1) x+3y=3
-x+3y = 3

Add the two yielding 6y = 12

2) -3x=4y= -12
-4x=5y= -15
Don't know what the = sign represents, + or -.

3) 4x+y=20
3x+5y= 15

Multiply the first by 5 and subtract the second from the result.

what method did you use?...sorry
For (1), the tutor said "Adding the two..." so this would be "elimination/addition". For (2), you need to clarify the question. For (3), the tutor said "Multiply the first by 5..." so this would be "elimination/addition".

Elimination/addition and substitution are usually the first two methods taught, but it sounds as though you have not yet encountered these...? What methods have you learned?

Thank you.
