Hello folks
I am having trouble working out the formula to use to find out the following,

A room length is 0.8m & its width is 0.8m which = 0.64 m/2
The price for the carpet layer to lay the carpet is £28.00
How much would 1m x 1m be

Simon

Hello folks
I am having trouble working out the formula to use to find out the following,

A room length is 0.8m & its width is 0.8m which = 0.64 m/2 <--- that isn't a room but a box
The price for the carpet layer to lay the carpet is £28.00
How much would 1m x 1m be

1.

\(\displaystyle 1\ m \cdot 1\ m = 1\ m^2\)

2. You want to know the price per square-meter:

\(\displaystyle \displaystyle{\frac{\$ 28}{0.64\ m^2} = 43.75\ \frac{\$}{m^2}}\)

Thank you very much for the help:p

So to carry on with what I am trying to work out, If the room was 0.8 wide & 0.8 long, I would 0.8 * 0.8 = 0.64 m2 and then 28 / 0.64 = 43.75 to get the 1 m2 price

To test i have got this right, a room 0.8 * 0.8 = 0.64 m2 the carpet layer charges me £17.50 then to get the 1 m2 price it would be 17.50 / 0.64 = 27.34

[the room's] width is 0.8m which = 0.64 m/2

We know this is not what you're trying to say, but other readers might get confused.

The room-width is 0.8m

The surface area of the room-floor is 0.64m^2

(Maybe the room is in a doll house?)

Please be careful when discussing math with others; it's best not to use abbreviated language because good math-communication requires attention to details.

Cheers

Yes, you are correct.

When the cost to lay 0.64 square meters of carpet is £17.50, then the unit cost is £17.50/0.64 because the units are £/m^2 (pounds per square meter).
