I’m having a hard time with linear algebra. I know it’s “Y=MX+B”

I was given an example and got it wrong but I don’t know why. Can someone help?

your uncle weighed 280 pounds. He has lost 3 pounds for 8 months.

I wrote Y= -8 (3) + 280

Please state the entire problem exactly as given to you, so we can be sure you are answering the right question. But if he lost 3 pounds per month for 8 months, then your equation does give the weight after the 8 months.

It will be helpful if you can also tell us where you are unsure.

Hi CharMay707. Maybe you're expected to write MX+B instead of XM+B. The expression you wrote leads to the same value (because XM=MX), but it doesn't match the standard 'Slope-Intercept' form.

Also, it is the slope value that's negative (-3 pounds/month), not the value of X (which is 8 months).

Y = M(X) + B

Y = -3(8) + 280
