How do I solve Y = 1/4x + 1 ?
Is it \(\displaystyle Y = \frac{1}{4x+1} \) .......or......\(\displaystyle Y = \frac{1}{4x}+1 \) ..........or .........\(\displaystyle Y = \frac{1}{4}x +1 \)........or something else?

What do you mean by "solve"? Regardless of how we interpret what you wrote, it is already solved for y! You could graph this equation (which perhaps may be a line, for example), but there is no single "solution" in the sense of one value of either variable.

In addition to Subhotosh Khan’s question about what the equation really is, there is nothing to solve here.

Please give us the COMPLETE AND EXACT wording of the problem. Often a student’s problem arises from missing a clue in the statement of the problem.
