The ratio of Yes votes to No votes in an election was 5 to 4. How many No votes were cast if 3600 people voted Yes? Click to expand... "Yes to No is 5 to 4." This means: \(\displaystyle \L\:\frac{\text{Yes}}{\text{No}}\:=\:\frac{5}{4}\) Do a little algebra: \(\displaystyle \:\text{No} \:=\:\frac{4}{5}\cdot\text{Yes}\) Since \(\displaystyle \text{Yes}\,=\,3600\), we have: \(\displaystyle \:\text{No} \:=\:\frac{4}{5}(3600)\:=\:2880\)
