You have posted an expression. One may solve an equation, but one can only evaluate, simplify, or expand an expression.
What exactly are you supposed to do with the expression 2cos<sup>2</sup>(4A) - 1 ? (some directions would be nice)
I can tell you that the following identity has a form similar to your expression ...
2cos<sup>2</sup>x - 1 = cos(2x)
