A harbour H and an oil rig P are 62km apart with P due east of H. An oil rig Q is 44km from P on the bearing of 048 degrees from H. A seaside resort R is situated west of the line HQ. R is 45km and 61km from H and Q respectively. Calculate the angle HQR.

One would need to draw a picture and calculate compass point constituent parts.

Give us a clue how you intend to proceed.

Here's my take.

tkhunny, I wanna find the angle HQR but how do I do it since I only know half of the angle H (thanks Mark for the diagram). Thx

Do you see the right-angle at H ?

In other words, the bearing of P from H is 90 degrees.

The segment HQ divides this right angle, but not in "half".

48° + QHP = 90°

QHP is the complementary angle to 48°. Can you determine it?

(I foresee the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines coming.)
