Two cars travel on straight highways that are 80° apart in direction. One car travels at 60 miles per hour and the other at 50 miles per hour.

How far apart would they be after 30 minutes of travel?

Use the law of cosines.

distance = (rate)(times)

If car A travels at 60 mph for 1/2 an hour, well, they've travelled 30 miles.

Car B, 25 miles.
