heres the word problem: The annual salary of each employee at an automobile plant was increased by 6% cost of living raise and then a $2000 productivity raise.

Question: Write a function that tranforms the olf annual salary, S, into the new annual salary, N

So the answer is N- 1.06S + 2000 <--Where did the 1 come from? I just don't get that part.

Thanks for your help,
Anna

If you are increasing salary by 6% you are actually adding 6% of the original salary onto the original salary.

1.06S=1S+0.06S

The 1S is the original salary. The 0.06S is the 6% increase.

If you just had 0.06S, you would actually be decreasing the employee's salary by 94%!!! I don't think they would like that! :lol:

P.S. Yes, I do live at your mom's house. :wink:
