Given: A 30-m- long chain hangs vertically from a cylinder attached to a winch. Assume there is no friction in the system and the chain has a density of 5kg/m.
Question: How much work is required to wind the chain onto the cylinder if a 50kg block is attached to the end of the chain?
- After drawing a sketch I was able to find the work for the 30m chain with density of 5kg/m WITHOUT the 50kg block, by solving this integral Work=integral from 0-30 (x)(9.8m/sec^2)(5kg/m)dx and got 22,050 Joules. Although I am very confused on how to solve this with the 50kg block attached to the end
