Suppose you had a map made of paper. The thickness of the paper is 0.1 millimetres.

Now, suppose you fold it in half. Then you fold it in half again, and again, and again. In all, you fold it in half 40 times.

I know there should be a standard formula, but Im stuck. Please Help

Correction: "Suppose you had a life-size map of Neopia".

Since Neopets has made very clear that they do not appreciate the weekly "Lenny Conundrum" being posted at places like this, please do not try to use this math site to try to win your Neopets prizes.

Note to tutors: The above Neopets contest closes on Wednesday, 22 February. It might be nice if we didn't give out the answer until after that time, especially since the "students" can find the answer elsewhere.

Eliz.
