It is approximately 300 miles from Chicago, Illinois, to St. Louis, Missouri. Allowing for various traffic conditions, a driver can average approximately 60 miles per hour.

Write a linear function that expresses the distance traveled, d, as a function of time, t.

* would this be right? as a linear function?

60 times t equals d

or do I need numbers where t and d are?
 
No, "60t = d" is what they're looking for when they ask for a "function".
