I need a formula to work out hole spacing, this is my problem
If i know the diametre of a hole and how many holes are going on a sheet of board and the size of the sheet, is there a formula that will tell me what the distance between the holes will be in either direction, and if it can be as close to even in each direction.
eg sheet size 2350mm x1150mm hole diameter 12mm amount of holes 4613
Please help someone.!!!

It will depend on how the holes are placed. In a rectangle configuration? Are you to maximize the horizontal/vertical distance between the holes? Is there a margin the holes should be contained in?

need a formular

Hi all
I work for a company that does a lot of cnc machining and sometimes get request for perforated panels which can have specific open areas and hole diameters, this is to do with acoustic values, the sheet size is 2400x1200 with a 25mm border the whole way around with a 18.1% open area which i worked out to be 4613 holes at 12mm diameter (i think!)

holes

thew holes will be in this case in rows...sometimes there is a request for a diamond pattern

That isnt enough to give an accurate answer. Do you want 194 rows? then they will be awfully close vertically but you can space them out a lot horizontally.

Suppose you had a sheet of size 2304 mm * 1152 mm sheet - you could drill 48 rows and 96 columns of holes (total # of holes = 4608 with dia = 12 mm). The holes would each be located centrally within squares of 24 mm* 24 mm. So the minimum (edge-to-edge) distance between the circles would be 12 mm.

Would that work for you? You could possibly increase the dia. of the hole to 12.006 mm to get the same amount of opening as with 4613 holes.

You might want to talk to one of the certified CNC guys on the floor. He'll probably be able to explain the situation to you (such as the information necessary to the task), and maybe give you the answer you're needing.
